MISSION STATEMENT
Unicorn is a Christian English-medium school, committed to providing children with every opportunity to benefit from professional and caring teachers. Pupils are encouraged to think independently, to be considerate towards others and to be fair-minded in all things. The school develops each pupil’s spiritual, academic, social, physical and cultural ability and inspires its boys and girls to live out the motto Integrity.
Every morning when I arrive at Unicorn, I am reminded of what makes this school such a special place.
It is a school where children are known. Where teachers care about the individual child. Where we have high expectations, but understand that every child is different. And where the relationships between children, staff and parents really do matter.
For me, a good school is about getting the balance right. We need clear expectations and high standards, but we also need warmth, understanding and a genuine sense of care. Children need to know what is expected of them, but they also need to know that there is someone there to support them when things don't go quite to plan.
At Unicorn, we expect children to work hard, to show respect and to take responsibility for their actions. We celebrate success, but we also recognise that mistakes and setbacks are part of growing up. Sometimes the most important lessons come from the things that don't go according to plan.
Of course, school is about much more than what happens in the classroom. We want our children to discover what they are good at, and perhaps more importantly, to discover things they never knew they could do. Sport teaches resilience and teamwork. Our cultural activities build confidence and creativity. And through all of this, we try to help our children become decent, responsible young people who understand the importance of how they treat others.
Unicorn has a proud history, and we are very fortunate to have traditions that are part of who we are. But we are not a school that simply looks backwards. We continue to change, to improve and to look for better ways of doing things, while holding on to the things that make Unicorn, Unicorn.
Most importantly, we want our children to leave us not only well prepared for their next school, but ready for whatever comes after that.
